2 MiniGPT-5: Interleaved Vision-and-Language Generation via Generative Vokens Large Language Models (LLMs) have garnered significant attention for their advancements in natural language processing, demonstrating unparalleled prowess in text comprehension and generation. Yet, the simultaneous generation of images with coherent textual narratives remains an evolving frontier. In response, we introduce an innovative interleaved vision-and-language generation technique anchored by the concept of "generative vokens," acting as the bridge for harmonized image-text outputs. Our approach is characterized by a distinctive two-staged training strategy focusing on description-free multimodal generation, where the training requires no comprehensive descriptions of images. To bolster model integrity, classifier-free guidance is incorporated, enhancing the effectiveness of vokens on image generation. Our model, MiniGPT-5, exhibits substantial improvement over the baseline Divter model on the MMDialog dataset and consistently delivers superior or comparable multimodal outputs in human evaluations on the VIST dataset, highlighting its efficacy across diverse benchmarks. 3 authors · Oct 3, 2023 1
1 MiniGPT-4: Enhancing Vision-Language Understanding with Advanced Large Language Models The recent GPT-4 has demonstrated extraordinary multi-modal abilities, such as directly generating websites from handwritten text and identifying humorous elements within images. These features are rarely observed in previous vision-language models. We believe the primary reason for GPT-4's advanced multi-modal generation capabilities lies in the utilization of a more advanced large language model (LLM). To examine this phenomenon, we present MiniGPT-4, which aligns a frozen visual encoder with a frozen LLM, Vicuna, using just one projection layer. Our findings reveal that MiniGPT-4 possesses many capabilities similar to those exhibited by GPT-4 like detailed image description generation and website creation from hand-written drafts. Furthermore, we also observe other emerging capabilities in MiniGPT-4, including writing stories and poems inspired by given images, providing solutions to problems shown in images, teaching users how to cook based on food photos, etc. In our experiment, we found that only performing the pretraining on raw image-text pairs could produce unnatural language outputs that lack coherency including repetition and fragmented sentences. To address this problem, we curate a high-quality, well-aligned dataset in the second stage to finetune our model using a conversational template. This step proved crucial for augmenting the model's generation reliability and overall usability. Notably, our model is highly computationally efficient, as we only train a projection layer utilizing approximately 5 million aligned image-text pairs. Our code, pre-trained model, and collected dataset are available at https://minigpt-4.github.io/. 5 authors · Apr 20, 2023 1
1 Beyond Hallucinations: Enhancing LVLMs through Hallucination-Aware Direct Preference Optimization Multimodal large language models have made significant advancements in recent years, yet they still suffer from a common issue known as the "hallucination problem" where the models generate textual descriptions that contain inaccurate or non-existent content from the image. To address this issue, this paper introduces a novel strategy: Hallucination-Aware Direct Preference Optimization (HA-DPO). Our approach treats the hallucination problem as a unique preference selection issue, where the model is trained to favor the non-hallucinating response when presented with two responses of the same image (one accurate and one hallucinating). This paper also presents an efficient process for constructing hallucination sample pairs to ensure high-quality, style-consistent pairs for stable HA-DPO training. We applied this strategy to two mainstream multimodal models, and the results showed a significant reduction in the hallucination problem and an enhancement in the models' generalization capabilities. With HA-DPO, the MiniGPT-4 model demonstrates significant advancements: POPE accuracy increases from 51.13% to 85.66% (34.5% absolute improvement), and the MME score escalates from 968.58 to 1365.76 (41% relative improvement). The code, models, and datasets will be made publicly available. 6 authors · Nov 28, 2023
1 MindGPT-4ov: An Enhanced MLLM via a Multi-Stage Post-Training Paradigm We present MindGPT-4ov, a multimodal large language model (MLLM) that introduces a general post-training paradigm spanning data production, model training, and efficient deployment. It achieves state-of-the-art performance across multiple benchmarks at low cost, effectively enhancing the foundational capabilities of MLLMs and the generalization ability. Focusing on data construction, supervised fine-tuning strategies, and multimodal reinforcement learning methods, this work proposes three key innovations: (1) An information density-based data generation scheme, integrated with a dual-dimensional tree-structured label system, enabling automated generation of high-quality cross-domain data. (2) A collaborative curriculum supervised fine-tuning approach that balances the injection of domain-specific knowledge with the preservation of general capabilities. (3) A hybrid reinforcement learning paradigm that enhances reasoning ability while simultaneously addressing multi-objective optimization such as diversity exploration, maintenance of multimodal perception, and response conciseness. Moreover, we implement a series of infrastructure optimizations, such as 5D parallel training, operator optimization, and inference quantization to enhance training and inference efficiency while reducing the cost of domain adaptation. Experimental results demonstrate that the MindGPT-4ov model outperforms state-of-the-art models on benchmarks such as MMBench, MMStar, MathVision, and MathVista. In addition, MindGPT-4ov also demonstrates superior user experience in vertical domain tasks, enabling a seamless transition from academic research to industrial deployment. MindGPT-4ov provides a general post-training paradigm applicable to a wide range of MLLMs. The model weights, datasets, and code for the Qwen3-VL-based variants will be recently open-sourced to support the community's development of MLLMs. 17 authors · Dec 2
